One of the Milestones

I've decided to do better at my blog. We'll see how that goes! We just got back from Las Vegas and Scott's graduation from UNLV. Thought I'd share some pictures of things we want to remember. (As opposed to the things we'd rather forget like the sleepless night before Scott's final research presentation . . .). We arrived in Las Vegas last Thursday night and met up with Scott to do a little sightseeing. We drove over to the neighborhood where they are hoping to buy a house. It looks like a really nice neighborhood with all the things you look for in a place you choose to live. We are looking forward to seeing them settled later this summer.

On Friday morning we met Scott at the university and enjoyed his presentation on stretching before a sprint (Don't do it! You'll run slower by the way.) Scott looked like a pro up there -- even got in a joke or two. The presentation was so interesting, we decided to stay and listen to the rest of the students. Lake Mead can wait until another visit.

In the afternoon Heidi and the girls, and Heidi's parents, Ray and Dana, joined us for the cords and awards ceremony. That's where the grads get those colorful cords they wear over their gowns at graduation. We made it an early night.

The next day John and I got up with the chickens and headed to the Thomas & Mack Center to save seats for everyone in our group. We found that Las Vegas is a REALLY interesting place to people watch, and we met some very nice people in the seats around us. Graduation, with all its pomp and circumstance, finally got under way at nine a.m. We were really impressed that the speakers all kept it short -- maybe two and a half minutes tops -- until we discovered that they read every graduate's name as they walk across stage -- all 1400 of them including the bachelor degrees! The truly amazing thing was Meghan and Claire, ages 4 & 3, were very well behaved for the whole time (three hours.) We were so proud of our girls!

We were able to get some pretty good pictures of Scott considering the distance, and one kind of blurry one of him actually receiving his hood and handshake (diploma comes later!). As it turned out, I would have done well to just snap his picture on the jumbo tron that was right in front of us. Next time I'll do that. Anyway, it was pretty impressive. We headed back toward St. George for a quick visit with my parents, and just like that another milestone passes into history. Amazing!

Claire, Heidi, Emma, Meghan and Ray Walker -- Waiting patiently and enjoying the opportunity to people watch.

Just as I snapped this picture I heard Meghan and Claire say, "There's Daddy!"

Scott is the tallest doctorate standing in the row to the right of the G in graduate.

I promise, it's Scott (the one in Grey & Red.) Scott says the higher the degree, the dumber looking the costume is.

Introducing Doctor Scott David Christensen, DPT

Team Christensen stayed the course and earned the degree.

Go Rebels!
(Did you ever think you'd hear me say that? Depends on who the Rebel is I guess.)

Claire & Meghan: voted cutest, best behaved girls at the graduation.

Here is the future standing tall before us. Claire & Meghan wearing Dad's funny costume.
